"I used to wonder why weddings were planned so far in advance, then one day I realized it was so I had time to come up with something to say.

Though actually it was pretty clear what to say, because thoughout his whole life, whether he knew it or not, whether he liked it or not, Jim has been leading the way for his younger brothers. Each of those big steps in Life he had to take first, and we got to see what worked out and what didn't. And if I was completely honest with myself, I would have to say that a lot of my successes have come from having his example to follow.

So today in that next big step, Jim once again goes first, and we are all here to watch, and take notes. For there is still a lot to learn about Life. I should say to Liz however that she deosn't have to make things extra difficult for Jim, just for my sake. I can learn a few things on my own.

So thank you, and best wishes as you move on.

To many years, many memories, and most of all - after you, I insist."

"Ellen and I want to welcome everyone to Liz and Jim's wedding. Welcome to friends - -both old and new - and welcome to relatives and family - both old and new.

In some ways, Liz and Jim remind me of Ellen and me when we were married almost 32 years ago. I was a graduate student, and taught at the same time. Liz is doing the same thing. Ellen was working full time in a very demanding job. Jim is doing the same thing. We lived in Los Angeles, away from our families, and missed each other very much. Jim and Liz live here outside of Providence, away from their families, and we miss each other very much. But like Ellen and me, Liz and Jim are determined to make their own way in the world, and have the full encouragement, and love, of their families while doing so.

Those of you who know Liz and Jim well know that they will succeed because they are an excellent match: they support each other, and love each other very much. Also, they both like bunnies (among other animal friends).

Ellen and I have been blessed in life with two wonderful, bright and beautiful daughters.

Now we have added a son. Welcome to our family, Jim.

Please join Ellen and I in a toast to Mr. And Mrs. James Marks. To Liz and Jim!"
